Fayetteville, Ga. (June 20, 2024) – Town at Trilith today announced it will unveil the “Land of Imagination” mural at its 193-room boutique hotel, Trilith Guesthouse, Thursday, June 27th. The 54 feet by 16.5 feet acrylic concrete masterpiece portrayed on the hotel’s north wall celebrates the captivating power of storytelling and imagination. Inspired by Treasure Island, The Reluctant Dragon, and Camelot, the mural portrays three young children immersed in the magic of reading.

The mural’s artist, Shannon Lake, is a Georgia native with more than 30 years’ experience creating public artwork. Lake’s father was a sign painter and thus began a passion for painting large signs in public spaces, which eventually led to more creative works and art for public consumption.

“When approached to conceptualize a mural emblematic of children immersed in the joy of reading and learning, I knew it also needed to communicate the gift all of us possess—our imaginations,” said Lake. “This work also deserved a style reminiscent of the golden age of American illustration from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which emphasized a meticulous attention to detail, vibrant colors, ability to convey a narrative and evoke emotion.”

The hotel recently partnered with Leap for Literacy, a nonprofit organization committed to promoting kindness and improving literacy for low-income students. The mural’s theme captures the timeless allure of storytelling and aligns with Leap for Literacy’s mission. By combining art with advocacy, “Land of Imagination” serves as a vibrant symbol of hope and opportunity for young readers in need.

“This painting is a direct reflection of the hotel’s dedication to storytelling and complements the town’s overall creative mantra,” said Joe Castillo, Town of Trilith’s art curator. “Trilith was founded on the principles of being a place where makers live, create and inspire the world, and this piece is another shining example of implementing the type of artistic vision our community expects.”

Situated at the main entrance of the European-inspired Town at Trilith, the canvas for this project, Trilith Guesthouse, presented an aesthetic red brick backdrop for hotel guests and residents to marvel in the magic of storytelling. Additionally, the boutique hotel announced it plans to sell individual prints of the design to the public with proceeds benefiting Leap for Literacy.

“In addition to reaffirming our commitment to support Leap for Literacy, we pride ourselves on using storytelling as a portal for our guests to authentically connect with the community,” said James Green, general manager, Trilith Guesthouse. “Our travelers are seeking enrichment, and our team encourages their curiosity, while art provides a powerful vehicle to accomplish both objectives.”

This latest mural is the 25th art project completed at Town of Trilith. “Land of Imagination” joins a robust art collection on property of other murals, stone structures and distinctive metalworks, including signature pieces like “The Shipyard,” “Hand to Hold” and “The Weight We Share,” among others. Castillo asserts more public artwork is already planned.
