Job Summary:

Oxbow Bar & Grill Lead Bartender will be responsible for overseeing the bar operations and ensuring exceptional service to all guests that are consistent and continually in accordance with the restaurant’s service standards. Oxbow Bar & Grill Lead Bartender will also be responsible for recruiting, supervising and training bartenders, creating weekly schedules and managing the bar’s liquor and supply inventory.

Essential Functions

  • Supervises multiple aspects of running and operating Oxbow’s day to day bar operations to ensure positive guest experiences
  • Effectively communicates critical information to bartending team on daily, weekly and monthly basis
  • Develops purchase and supply orders, checks in recently purchased bar items, arranges monthly inventory
  • Oversees house cash bank assignments for new hires
  • Creates and distributes weekly bartender schedule based on projected volume and special events
  • Ensures all bar equipment is operation and functional, reports any defects
  • Trains new hire bartenders on Oxbow’s service standards, drink recipes, menu knowledge, set up and closing procedures, and cash handling
  • Excellent knowledge and skill level of cocktail crafting and mixology fundamentals
  • Curate guests’ bar experience by making recommendations
  • Knowledge of all beverages to include liquors, wines, and beers
  • Serve guests in an efficient courteous manner following the proper steps of service
  • Have necessary tools to run the shift such as pen, corkscrew, bar tools, etc.
  • Ability to pair wines with meals
  • Understanding that the bar serves full food & drink menu and must be prepared to serve full coursed and/or shared meals to guests
  • Light food running when applicable, ability to carry plates that may be warm or hot
  • Knowledge of all menu items to include prep time, preparations, sauces, allergies, and accompaniments
  • Collect and process payment for food and beverages served
  • Follow standard TIPS practices to ensure safe and responsible serving of alcohol
  • Be aware of any specials, soups, drinks, and any items that are running low
  • Ability to handle station, or when situations arise, ability to let manager/supervisor know ahead of time of any issues that may affect the guest experience
  • Follow appropriate cash handling procedures as established by Accounting, and must be able to explain shortages and overages
  • Maintain a clean and orderly bar area
  • Clean glasses, utensils, coolers, and bar equipment
  • Perform other duties as management requests to service our guests.

Qualification Standards

Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or higher
  • Previous hospitality experience required
  • Minimum 3-year bartending experience in high volume bar or restaurant preferable in the Southwest, Florida area
  • Experience with restaurant POS systems, preferably MICROS
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to use technology e.g. tablets, iPads

NOTICE:  The hotel business functions seven days a week, 24 hours a day.  All employees must realize this fact and be always aware that it may be necessary to move associates from their accustomed shift as business demands.  In addition this is a hospitality business, and a hospitable service atmosphere must be projected at all times.
