Job Summary:

Develops and manages all human resource of the pre-opening and opening of newly constructed hotel(s) within Marriott’s Autograph Collection and Arthrex’s Innovation Hotel. On-going management of recruiting, salary administration, associate services, associate and management development and training, associate benefits, and labor relations. Provide advice and counsel on all laws affecting the operations in regard to associates.

Essential Functions

 

Pre-Opening Leadership

  • Participate in development and implementation of brand service standards
  • Manage pre-opening recruitment and hiring process
  • Develop pre-opening training plan for all managers and team members
  • Participate in development of budgets for opening labor and training costs
  • Participate in development of staffing guides, job descriptions and operational procedures
  • Execute and support Mainsail’s core values
  • Perform other duties, as assigned, to meet business needs

 

Opening and On-going Leadership

    • Prepare and maintain Human Resources budget for both hotels
    • Communicate company policy via hotel newsletter, employee bulletin boards, orientation programs and team meetings to ensure that all personnel policies and standards of conduct are known, understood and followed
    • Establish and maintain staffing levels for each department based on staffing guides
    • Ensure hotel(s) compliance with all applicable federal, state and local employment laws
    • Practice positive employee relations. Promotes with the management team a tone of communication and a disciplinary manner that is perceived by employees as fair and equitable to protect hotel against any union organizing attempts and ensure its’ effective and profitable operation
    • Coordinate and monitor recruitment, screening and reference checking of all exempt and non-exempt personnel
    • Conduct interviews and make hiring recommendations for all exempt and non-exempt personnel
    • Maintain employee benefits programs
    • Set up, approve, and maintain all wage and salary programs
    • Ensure Employee Opinion Survey is completed by all employees on an annual basis
    • Recommend and/or approve all employee transitions, i.e. new hire, transfer, promotion, etc.
    • Assist in creating a positive team-oriented environment which focuses on the guest, through employee development and motivation
    • Maintain open door policy
    • Update and submit required reports in a timely manner
    • Participate in and monitor Safety Committee in compliance with Loss Prevention SOP’s
    • Implement injury prevention programs, conduct detailed accident investigations, and closely manage medical claims on a case by case basis to minimize Workers’ Compensation costs and enhance profitability of the hotel
    • Develop and maintain Associate of the Month/Year program
    • Develop and maintain new hire and ongoing training programs

 

  • Participate in developing managers for future advancement

 

  • Ensure the highest level of guest service by performing routine spot checks of service standards and operational procedures

 

Hotel Performance

  • Ensure successful performance by increasing team member effectiveness and morale, controlling expenses and providing a return on investment for the owner and investors

 

Qualification Standards

 

Education & Experience

  • 4-year Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Previous hotel human resource and training experience preferred
  • Excellent customer service and employee relation skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to effectively present information to individuals or groups
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs a must, Marriott systems a plus
