JOB SUMMARY

The incumbent in this position is responsible for operating the company’s vessels. Ensuring the highest standards of upkeep, hygiene and cleanliness of the Vessels including all equipment, above & below deck crew and public accessible areas.

Responsibility for all Vessel operations, maintaining the highest standard of Health & Safety Compliance, Record keeping, Mooring, Repair & Maintenance, Safe Lifting, Cradling & Re-launching procedures. Maintain close communication with Marina Master, Dock Master clients and ensuring a high level of service and timely and defect free operations.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education & Experience:

  • Captain/ Masters Internationally acknowledged qualifications
  • Physical health i.e.. ENG1 or less
  • Language as required
  • MCA STCW certification
  • Knowledge of vessels and requirements including mooring arrangements, (bunkering) fuelling, spillage & pollution control, potable water etc.
  • Fire prevention/fighting qualifications
  • Radio VHF operators qualifications
  • Maintain contact to shore based emergency services
  • Customs requirements and reporting for vessels entry if required
  • Port specific controls for Bunkering, Security, accident, (signage, reporting & log keeping)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Word
  • Communicate with guests, staff, management & vessel owners
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including weekends, and late nights

JOB SPECIFIC TASKS

Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and professional manner

  • Maintain a high standard of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper dress code when working
  • Knowledge of local waters and navigation instructions
  • Carry out vessel operations competently by developing and implementing departmental objectives in line with the Resort business objectives
  • Fully comply with all Marriott Brand standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient vessel operations
  • Attend daily/weekly staff meetings as and when required
  • Supervise vessel operations including cleaning and maintenance procedures whilst ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and following SOP’s
  • Inspection of all vessel areas, making corrective measures where necessary in order to meet Mainsail/Marriott standards
  • Manage stock inventory, ordering of supplies/materials as necessary to meet quality standards, vessel requirements and business needs
  • Waste discharge and shore depository/storage & disposal
  • Liaise with various departments such as Front Desk, Engineering, Sales and Marketing and Food & Beverage to ensure that all our guests receive the highest standard of service
  • Participate in any proposed Marina refurbishment, improvement and renovation projects
  • The Captain ensures that the vessel complies with local and international laws and complies also with company policies. The Captain is ultimately responsible, under the law, for aspects of operation such as the safe navigation of the vessel, its cleanliness, seaworthiness, safe handling of all cargo, safety & management of all passengers & crew. Maintaining the ship’s certificates and documentation.
  • The Captain has special responsibilities when the ship or its cargo are damaged, when the ship causes damage to other vessels or facilities. The master acts as a liaison to local investigators and is responsible for providing complete and accurate logbooks, reports, statements, and evidence to document an incident. Specific examples of the ship causing external damage include collisions with other ships or with fixed objects, grounding the vessel, and dragging anchor. Some common causes of cargo damage include heavy weather, water damage, pilferage, and damage caused during loading/unloading.
  • All persons on board including public authorities, crew, and passengers are under the Captain’s authority and are his or her ultimate responsibility, particularly during navigation. In the case of injury or death of a crew member or passenger, the master is responsible to address any medical issues affecting the passengers and crew by providing competent medical care, cooperating with shore-side medical personnel, and, if necessary, evacuating those who need more assistance than can be provided on board the ship.
